Firstly, can we take this opportunity to say a massive THANK YOU for the wonderful warm welcome that Sharon and I have received since we joined you at Bloomfield Methodist Church at the start of September. We had a sneak preview of the love that was waiting for us since we were introduced back in May, and the events we were fortunate and blessed to be a part of during the summer. God’s love is very much evident in the conversations and the actions of everybody: the love for God, one another and the community.
The Methodist Church in Ireland in conjunction with our President Rev Alan Wardlow, have set the theme for the year as: Compelled in the Spirit, to encourage us as individuals and churches to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with everyone we meet, just as the early church did in Acts. We do this by ‘sowing seeds’, the Apostle Paul encouraged the Galatians to keep sowing seeds, to keep on and not to get tired of sowing, even when it doesn’t look like the sowing is making any difference. Life is like a field, and every action we take is a seed. The words we speak, the posture we have, the choices we make, the activities we do, each one goes into the soil of time and will eventually bring forth a harvest. In God’s time He will germinate those seeds we have sown so that they will take root in the soil of people’s hearts. The seeds we are called to sow are seeds of Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control, all of which are in short supply in the world we live in today. These are, of course, the Fruit of the Spirit, the attributes which we as Christians are to display to others around us but we are not to lose heart.
At this Harvest Time let us keep on sowing, so that in due course we will have a harvest to bring in to the storehouse.
May you know the blessings of God at all times,
Colin Houston
(Ordained Minister in Training).
